Diagrams

Here is an interesting ‘diagram’ I saw this morning in the local mag while waiting for my takeaway coffee. Its message is clear and effective and it seemed pertinent in relation to our recent diagramming exercises. By connecting a long history with a tangible life, the lump of wood became the tree that deserved more respect. I found this highly affecting at the time. Then as I walked away, feeling emotional about the tree, I realized that it had a powerful reverse effect as well: if the duration implied in that history-book history can be embraced by throwing yr arms around an old tree, then not only is the tree a (still) living embodiment of that duration, but that (somewhat abstract) history felt all the more grounded in the material continuum that life is. (phew).

sorry that you have to turn yr head to read these, but I haven’t got a way of rotating images in either iPhone or wordpress (or at least I haven’t found the way yet).
