sprouting

* For getting your pictures of your sprouting bean seed up on this page, please email it to: poeia@onomatopoeia.com.au*

Here are the instructions for getting your seed to sprout:

Inside the plastic bag, with these, you should have:
1. a bean seed
2. a peat pellet: the brown disk which will expand into a place to sprout your seed.
3. instructions with ruler on one side

Get started as soon as you can!! Its easy:

- Take everything out of the plastic bag.

– Stand the plastic bag up, so that it becomes like a little pot.

– Place your peat pellet in the plastic bag. The top of the pellet is the side with the circle on it.

– Pour in some water and watch it start to expand (like magic!). This takes a little while, so don’t worry if it doesn’t seem to be working straight away.

– When it has finished expanding, it will be about 4cm high. You can use the ruler on the other side of this paper to measure it.

– Once it has expanded, pour any excess water out of the bag.

– Push your seed about 2cm into the peat pellet and cover it with peat.

– Close up the bag again, so that the seed and peat pellet stay moist.

– Put it somewhere warm. It doesn’t need sunlight yet, just warmth.

– Don’t add any more water unless required. It needs to stay moist, but not soggy.

After 1 week (or after the sprout emerges): open up the bag and take a photo of your bean plant through the hole to upload to this blog (instructions coming)

After 2 weeks:
On Monday  15th of September
(or earlier if you teacher asks you to) bring your baby bean plant back to school Then we will make a new place in the school garden with all your baby plants!!
