the stuff of life.

Interesting comparisons to buds, and to images of plant structure and growth with fetal postions etc.

SEMEN! Breaking it down:
2-3%: spermatozoa (sperm)
65-75%: amino acids, citrate, enzymes, flavins, fructose, phosphorylcholine, prostaglandins, proteins, vitamin C.
25-30%: acid phosphatase, citric acid, fibrinolysin, prostate specific antigen, proteolytic enzymes, zinc
>1%: galactose, mucus (serve to increase the mobility of sperm cells in the vagina and cervix by creating a less viscous channel for the sperm cells to swim through, and preventing their diffusion out of the semen. Contributes to the cohesive jelly-like texture of semen.), pre-ejaculate, sialic acid
Also contains: aboutonia, calcium, chlorine, cholesterol, sodium, urea, blood group antigens, vitamin B12.
Ok, so what nutrients are required for the healthy growth of plants?
Carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, phosphorus, potassium, nitrogen, sulphur, calcium, magnesium, iron, molybdenum, boron, copper, manganese, zinc, chlorine

Jen,

This is shaping up to be very promising.
I think its important that you do some research into the chemical constituents of semen, its value for plant growth and some accompanying research into hydroponics. there may be a liquid on hand that's particularly good to add to the used condom.

these kinds of details will give the other quite magnificent dimensions and resonances a scientific spin.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homunculus

Here is a link on wikipedia if you have not found it. The concept of becoming hyper-real to re-render your project outside the idea of 'gross' excess is interesting. Hyper-reality is inturn a fetishism of the object of reality. Perhaps the idea of fetishism could be extended through your project. Freud wrote an essay in 1919 (?) called Fetishism nd Baudrillard has written on Seduction, and Simulation and Simulcra. At the very least the idea of a used condom is an actual sexual fetish (though what does not have a sexual fetish) in itself, a somewhat disturbing one at that. But wihtin these ideas, existing realms of reality are opened up to new modes of being.

There is also the danger of the sexual nature of the subject becoming rudimentary, even highly mechanical, an adoration as an object figure. But Im sure he will cope with it some how. Poor boy.

I can't believe how powerful that audio is.... I listened to it with headphones with the volume up quite loud so there was no ambient noise. My heart started beating rapidly and it felt as if my stomach was being sucked up into my chest. Amazing.
